		<description>How can we protect people from themselves? If Benrie Madoff came along today, he would still seduce thousands into believing he could make them rich. 
He had connections, he even had royalty as his clients. People believe the hype that has been force-fed. They want everything in a minute, they want it easy and on a  &quot;leave and forget&quot; basis.
It is a sad commment on human nature.

		<description>I&#039;ve had a question for some time about how the free market would have protected us from Bernie Madoff .  This article sort of answers that question.  My question, now is, if these firms that would &quot;police&quot; the market for a fee, how would the average investor access that information?  Through a magazine or web site?  And, what about those of us who are not &quot;market savvy&quot;? I assume that the government still would be in charge of prosecution and punishment.  So, these firms would have turned him in?  I know the SEC was warned at least 4 times about Bernie and did not act.</description>
