Here is part 1 of a 5 part interview with economist Walter Block talking about his book Economics and the Environment: A Reconciliation.

There are far too many people who misunderstand the free market and economics in general. The famous scientist and skeptic Michael Shermer has written an article and a great book, The Mind of the Market, about this issue. The majority of people seem to think that capitalism and environmentalism are at odds; but they aren’t. In fact most economists will tell you that the free market, not central planning, is actually the best way to preserve the environment.

As an investor, it’s important, although not necessary, to understand economics. It will help you gain a deeper appreciation of the beautiful complex adaptive system that is the free market.
