A storm of storylines has flooded into Greensboro, North Carolina, this week for the PGA Tour's regular season finale. Hosting the Wyndham Championship once again, Sedgefield Country Club will be the site at which players vie for their postseason livelihood as only the top 70 players from the season-long race move on from here.

The Donald Ross design is expected to receive plenty of rain as Tropical Storm Debby makes its way through the Carolinas. An added wrinkle for players to contend with, a stop-and-go nature to this tournament could occur as record rainfall engulfs the Southeast United States.

Hoping to have a record year himself is Irishman Shane Lowry, who enters the week ranked 10th in the FedEx Cup standings. The last man slotted to earn the year-end bonus for finishing inside the top 10 of the FedEx Cup regular season, Lowry looks usurp Sungjae Im (No. 9) while also fending off players like Akshay Bhatia (No. 15), Brian Harman (No. 21), Christiaan Bezuidenhout (No. 22) and Davis Thompson (No. 24).

While those players are firmly in the postseason and jostling for bonuses and positioning for the Tour Championship, others are not as lucky. Scrolling through the FedEx Cup standings, names like Cameron Young (No. 35), Will Zalatoris (No. 45), Justin Rose (No. 52), Min Woo Lee (No. 62) and Jordan Spieth (No. 64) all stand outside key cut-off points.

Spieth should safely sit inside the top 70, which will play in next week's FedEx St. Jude Championship, but he is on the wrong side of the draw for the BMW Championship where the top 50 play and earn exemptions into the 2025 signature events. Finding some much-needed form with his irons in recent weeks, the former FedEx Cup champion hopes for more of the same in his first tournament appearance since 2020.

While Spieth has not won this season, a number of players who have are just below him. Nick Dunlap -- one of five multiple-time winners this season -- checks in at No. 66; he did not receive any FedEx Cup points for his win as an amateur at The American Express. Experiencing an up-and-down season since, the Alabama product notched a win at the Barracuda Championship the same week as The Open to move up the peloton.

Jhonattan Vegas (No. 67) and Davis Riley (No. 72) are the other winners from 2024 who are on the bubble, while the most popular man from the Olympics, Victor Perez (No. 71), is right on the fringe. The Frenchman aims to carry to momentum from Paris where he nearly found the podium and take over the position currently occupied by Brendon Todd (No. 70).

2024 Wyndham Championship field, odds

  • Sungjae Im (14-1):The convergence of course history and current form points to Im this week. After a sluggish spring, the South Korean has found his stride with nine top-15 finishes in his last 11 worldwide starts. During this run, Im had struggled in major championships -- missing the cut at the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open -- but made his presence known during the Scottish swing that included a T4 at the Scottish Open and a T7 at The Open. With five top 25s under his belt in five trips to Sedgefield Country Club, Im looks primed for his first PGA Tour win since Fall 2021.
  • Shane Lowry (22-1):After missing the postseason in 2023, Lowry is in prime position to qualify for the Tour Championship for the first time in his career. A late surge in the final three major championships that included finishes of T6, T19 and solo sixth at The Open have served as the spark plug since his win alongside Rory McIlroy at the Zurich Classic. He is striking the ball as well as ever over the last month and is finally making putts after experiencing some frustrating tournaments on the greens.
  • Billy Horschel (22-1): It's been a great year for Horschel, who was at his lowest of lows just last season. A winner at the Corales Championship, he has since added quality outings at the PGA Championship, Memorial and The Open where he finished runner-up to Xander Schauffele. Horschel returns to a very comfortable spot on the calendar as he has five top-11 finishes in his last seven showings including a runner-up finish in 2020.
  • Si Woo Kim (25-1)
  • Brian Harman (30-1)
  • Cameron Young (30-1): Young has gotten the most out of his quality weeks, notching six top 10s this season and only one additional top 20. The boom-or-bust nature to his game is nothing new, but he has been booming in recent tournaments with a close call a the Rocket Mortgage Classic after a solid performance at the Travelers Championship. Question marks around his putting could hinder his chances in his tournament debut.
  • Christiaan Bezuidenhout (35-1)
  • Akshay Bhatia (35-1)
  • Aaron Rai (35-1)
  • Davis Thompson (35-1)
  • Jordan Spieth (35-1): He's not quite in the position his good friend Justin Thomas was in last season, but Spieth's 2024 has been a struggle. After a nice start to his year, the 13-time PGA Tour winner has added just one top-10 finish since March. A top-25 result at The Open came at a good time and could be the catalyst for a postseason run. Despite the poor campaign, he is driving his ball as well as ever, which will help his cause at Sedgefield Country Club.

2024 Wyndham Championship expert picks

Brian Harman

Winner (30-1): If the weather is gnarly, Harman has the guts and game to contend with it. Before a forgettable defense at The Open, the left hander was grooving with four top 25s in a five-tournament stretch that included a top-10 finish at the Travelers Championship. As accurate as they come off the tee, Harman has rediscovered his early-season iron play and should couple nicely with his putter. He's the only player in this field to rank inside the top 30 in both strokes gained approach and strokes gained putting.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout

Contender (35-1): The South African ranks second only to Horschel in terms of total strokes gained over the last six months and arrives off a nice showing at the Olympics. Finishing inside the top 20 in Paris, Bezuidenhout ranked eighth in strokes gained off the tee and fourth in strokes gained putting. He will need the iron play to turn a corner, but it shouldn't be too far off as it was in a nice place before going international.

Victor Perez

Sleeper (80-1): Why not us? No. 71 nearly stole a podium spot at the Olympics thanks to his final-round 63 and should carry that momentum back to the states. The result in Paris marked his fourth top-12 finish in his last seven starts as Perez has been able to match his typically reliable putting with a nice run of ball striking. If he drives the ball like he did at Le Golf National, he has the makeup to contend.
